As Botswana prepares to host the 30th TAFISA World Congress in Gaborone in October 2027, TAFISA is building partnerships with diplomatic missions to broaden international participation in the global Sport for All movement.
Two meetings took place on 13 and 14 October 2026, involving H.E. Valérie Baraban, French Ambassador to Botswana, and Samuel Ducroquet, French Consul General in Johannesburg, alongside representatives of the TAFISA leadership.
On 13 October, TAFISA Secretary General Jean-François Laurent, TAFISA Vice President for Africa Boineelo Hardy, and Senior Consultant Game Mothibi attended a welcome reception in honour of the French Consul General, hosted by the French Embassy in Botswana. The reception brought together members of the diplomatic corps representing different countries in Botswana.
During the reception, the TAFISA Secretary General addressed the diplomats, introducing TAFISA's work in advancing Sport for All globally and presenting the vision for the upcoming Congress under the theme "Sport for All: Investing in Active Futures."
The diplomats welcomed the opportunity to learn more about TAFISA and expressed interest in exploring opportunities to participate in the Congress and contribute to its success.
On 14 October, the French Ambassador and the French Consul General met with the TAFISA Executive Board during their visit to Gaborone to discuss ways to encourage greater participation from French-speaking countries in the 2027 Congress. Discussions also included exploring translation support and other measures to ensure the Congress is accessible to French-speaking delegates.
These discussions reflect TAFISA's commitment to making the World Congress a truly international platform that brings together diverse voices, experiences and perspectives to shape the future of Sport for All.
As Gaborone prepares to host this landmark gathering, collaboration with diplomatic missions and international stakeholders will be important in expanding the Congress's reach and creating opportunities for lasting partnerships.
